GSwE2009 Comparisons

In order to better understand how current programs perform against the GSwE2009 recommendations, the Curriculum Author Team (CAT) is currently developing a companion document to GSwE2009, Comparisons of GSwE2009 to Current Graduate Programs in Software Engineering.

Currently there are 11 schools providing data for the comparison, most of which are in North America, but also including schools from South America and Europe.  No identifying information is included about programs in order to maintain anonymity and encourage the faculty who submit comparisons to be as open as possible about their programs.

The document will include information on:

  • the demographics of the participating programs;
  • a program's entrance requirements;
  • the required courses within a program;
  • profiles for multiple hypothetical students who represent the typical student types seen within the program (including educational background, professional experience, and goals); and
  • how these student types compare to the GSwE2009 outcomes as they enter the program, as they complete the required courses, and as they complete the program

Version 1.0 of Comparisons of GSwE2009 to Current Graduate Programs in Software Engineering was released on November 11, 2009.  The document can be downloaded on the Comparison Document page.

Continuing Comparison Efforts

We invite you to participate in this comparison effort by submitting information about your program.  New comparisons will be included in periodic updates of the Comparisons document.  If you are interested in providing a comparison of your program to GSwE2009 please click here.  (Please note that you may download the tools to perform your own comparison without any obligation to provide this information to the iSSEc projet).

Comparison Data

In future, the CAT plans to make the collected data available to researchers interested in graduate software engineering education.  The data will be scrubbed to remove all program-identifiers, but will still include demographic information about a program in addition to comparisons of students against the GswE2009 outcomes.  The process for data sharing has not yet been established.  However, if you are interested in using this data for research, please contact [insert email].
